TESA (Western) have been awarded the contract by Bideford College to install and commission the Sea Change Energy Management System at the colleges new build site. The Sea Change Energy Management System will have a major impact in significantly reducing energy costs and carbon emissions.
As the SeaChange is a modular control system, each module is application specific, with preconfigured strategies avoiding the need for in-depth programming costs.
Each control module will be connected to a zone controller which will provide optimum start/stop for AHUs, boiler hot-water services etc. — adding even more energy savings and helping to keep the space at the correct set point.
Being able to adjust times and temperatures remotely means the correct temperature set points can be lowered or raised as appropriate to ease staff and pupils into working under more finely controlled conditions.
As a new build College Bideford College have set themselves some very demanding targets; they expect the design and construction to be of such a high quality that it will surpass the requirements for the award of a nationally recognised accreditation for reduced heating, energy and water consumption and will have very low (hopefully neutral) Carbon (Greenhouse gas) emissions.
To achieve this they expect to source wood from renewable sources, use alternative energy supplies (solar panels, wind harnessing, woodchip/pellet burners) all of which will not rely on traditional sources of oil, gas or coal which we all know are going to become scarcer in the future. It is intended to harness rainwater for use as a resource for use in flushing toilets (having gone through a filter) and for the use in the management of the ecological education area.
Bideford College expect to deliver a new building that will be at the leading edge in regards of technology and invention, placing them firmly in the spotlight on a National scale.
